When I was 12 years old John Hale coached my B Team church basketball team with Craig Infanger. After the game I sat on the stage sulking because I thought I should have played more. John came up to me and asked me what the problem was. I told him it wasn't fair that I didn't get to play more! Of course I was slow, portly and couldn't jump more then an inch and in all fairness he played me more then I deserved. He put his hands on my shoulder and looked me in the eye and said. "Who said that life was fair? Life is not fair, you better get used to that!" Then he started to chuckle. I didn't appreciate that to much then but much later I understood what he was trying to teach me. To this day, when unfair things happened to me in life I always remember him and laugh. John was like a second father to me as a teen and I will always appreciated the love and kindness he and Norma showed towards me. He was so liberal with his time and generous with all of his possessions...including his bass boat! It will be wonderful to see him, Norma and Jeff again at the feet of our Savior.
