Obituary of Norma Louise Hale

Norma Louise Jones Hale, 81, passed away on Friday, November 12, 2021 in Lexington, Kentucky in the hospice unit of St. Joseph's Hospital. She was born in LaFayette, AL to the late John Ervin Jones, Sr. and Martha Louise Thompson Jones. Norma was the lovely wife to John Edward Hale, Jr. for 54 years. Norma graduated from West End High School in Birmingham, AL in 1958; then attended Auburn University receiving an Associates Degree in Business Management. She then moved to Lexington, KY in 1965 where she met her husband in 1967 on a blind date. Norma was never left wanting for a job because of her versatility; she worked as a private secretary, book keeper, accountant, proof reader, secretary at Spindletop Research Center, editor for Blood Horse Publications, and a professional stenographer and typist (she could type 80 words a minute). Norma was the first person in her family to join the Church of Jesus Christ Later Day Saints and was baptized on May 3, 1975 in Winchester, Ky. She served the church in many avenues including, President of the Relief Society, Young Women's President, primary children's teacher, librarian and much more. Norma’s work never stopped, she was a servant in the church, community and home. She loved to read, cook and play card games with her grandkids  Norma is survived by her husband, John Hale, Jr.; son, John Hale lll (Michele); sister, Linda Jones Burchfield; niece, Beth Degler; nephew, John Jones III ; nine grandchildren; and one great grand-daughter. She is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jeff Hale; and a brother, John Ervin Jones, Jr.. There will be a memorial service held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints- 215 Wellington Way, Georgetown, Ky 40324 on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 2 p.m.. Visitation will precede the service from 1-2 p.m. For those who can't attend the service, there will be a Zoom link for the memorial at 2p shared via Facebook and email. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Saffell House Funeral Home.
